My review of the OPIc English test in Korea

1. What is OPIc?

OPIc (Oral Proficiency Interview - computer) is the speaking test organized by ACTFL. OPIc is currently available in the following languages: English, Korean, Japanese, etc. The levels of the OPIc are Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice. Intermediate and Novice are divided into High, Mid, and Low sublevels. Furthermore, the Intermediate Mid level is divided into 1, 2, and 3.

2. First, I took the OPIc English

Although I made up my mind to get a high level of OPIc English, I don't know how to study for this test. So, I decided to take the test first. And, I got IM1(Intermediate Mid 1) level... I thought it was low for me and made a plan of studying OPIc English test.

3. Studying the OPIc English test

I went to the bookstore and found a good examination paper for the OPIc English test. When I came back to my company, I ordered that book from an online bookstore. 

 

The book was delivered to my company and I got it. I select the topics for the test and concentrated on that topics. I think it is better to select the topics that you want to talk about a lot and you think it is easy to talk about. I chose Jogging, Watching the news, etc.

 

At first, I read the best answer on the examination paper aloud a few times. Then, I tried to talk about my own answer to each question. It was difficult but I practiced and practiced again. After a lot of practice, I could talk about my own answer a lot to all questions.

 

 

 

 

4. Took the OPIc English again!

I retook OPIc English on July 4th, 2022. A test center is near Gangnam station.

 

I tried to speak as much as possible about all questions. And, I tried to speak as naturally as possible. There were 10 people in the test center when the test began. But, when I finished the test, there was no one but me and an exam supervisor. It was good because I felt like I spoke more than they did.

 

5. I got IH(Intermediate High) this time! 

A few days later, I checked the result. I found I got IH! It is a good grade for Korean engineering students. So, I felt very good.
